Tate and Lyle

Brick Lane Music Hall has long been associated with Tate and Lyle, the famous sugar company created in Silvertown by the merger of Henry Tate’s factory which produced mainly white sugar and Abraham Lyle’s factory which produced mainly Golden Syrup. The amalgamation in 1921 created one of the largest sugar refiners in the entire world. Wherever you are in Silvertown you can see the Tate and Lyle buildings which have dominated the landscape for many years and been a major employer.

The company has recently opened a new syrup production line at their Plaistow Wharf factory and Brick Lane Music Hall were there to help them celebrate with a launch event for local residents and councillors, including Newham Mayor, Sir Robin Wales.

Performing for the special event and in fine song were Bill Byrne and Hettie Hobbs, with Musical Director, Tom Carradine.
