A Genuine Wartime Hero

We are dedicating our 2016 Wartime Music Hall Show to our very dear friend, Jimmy Perry OBE, who died this week just a few weeks after his 93rd birthday. Jimmy brought joy to many, both in his everyday life as a generous benefactor and friend and as a script writer and co-creator of brilliant television comedies such as Dad’s Army, It Ain’t Half Hot Mum and Hi-Di-Hi.

Jimmy also possessed notable musical talent, composing the theme tunes to all of his television shows, including the memorable Dad’s Army title song “Who Do You Think You Are Kidding, Mr Hitler?” which was sung by Music Hall performer, Bud Flanagan. Despite all this talent, Jimmy called his autobiography, ‘A Stupid Boy’, after the character who he thought he most resembled in the rumbustious Home Guard of Walmington-on-Sea.
