What a Summer!

As part of its commitment to supporting young talent, in addition to its work in schools and on-going support for Newham youth charity, Ambition Aspire Achieve, Brick Lane Music Hall has topped off the summer by going to the Edinburgh Fringe!

In June and July the Brick Lane Music Hall team worked with local primary schools to create musical theatre productions of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and through the summer holidays Ambition Aspire Achieve have worked with over 300 young people, providing play schemes, clubs for those with special needs, activities and food programmes, family days out and residential trips.

Brick Lane Music Hall also joined with the Bristol Old Vic Theatre to sponsor a new production which launched at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August. Winner of the Pleasance Edinburgh National Partnership Award, Bitter Lemons was written and directed by Lucy Hayes, with performances from fellow Bristol Old Vic Theatre School grads, Chanel Waddock and Shannon Hayes.

Playing for the whole month of August, Bitter Lemons was chosen by The Scotsman as their stand out production over the first weekend of the festival and was a Playbill  “Pick of the Fringe”. Lucy Hayes was also nominated for the BBC Writer’s Room Popcorn Award, an award recognising new writing talent.

Thanking Brick Lane Music Hall along with the Bristol Old Vic for “making the show happen”, the team, who have accumulated an impressive collection of starry reviews and recommendations, go on to perform a week’s run at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre from September 5th – 9th 2023.
